BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

RECORD-SETTING DRONE FLIGHT

A Chinese university research team has set a Guinness record for the longest flight duration of an ornithopter, an unmanned aircraft that flies by flapping its mechanical wings.

Built by researchers and students from Beihang University, the birdlike machine flew continuously for 1 hour 30 minutes and 4.98 seconds.

ROCKET ENGINE TEST

China has completed a test of its largest-thrust vacuum liquid oxygen-methane engine, which was designed for use on a commercial rocket, the engine maker said Thursday.

Developed by the Chinese private rocket company LandSpace, the engine, coded TQ-15A, has a vacuum thrust of up to 836 kilonewtons.

DISCOVERY FROM TELESCOPE

The "China Sky Eye," also known as the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope, has spotted a huge atomic gas structure in the vicinity of a galaxy group.

The find came as the world's most sensitive radio telescope "cast its glance" at Stephan's Quintet, a visual grouping of five galaxies of which four form a compact galaxy group. Enditem
