SHANGHAI, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- A new augmented reality (AR) exhibition focusing on the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris has opened to the public free of charge in Shanghai.

The "Notre-Dame de Paris: The Augmented Exhibition" debuted in the eastern Chinese metropolis on Dec. 2 and will last until Jan. 2, 2023.

Unlike traditional exhibitions, the curatorial team of the show recreated a digital twin of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, which was ravaged by fire in April 2019, through 3D modeling.

Supported by AR technology, the audience can scan designated QR codes with tablet computers and watch historical photos, videos, and animations from different periods, which provides an immersive and interactive tour transporting visitors through time.

The visitors can also explore details of the current restoration site of the cathedral at the exhibition. Held in Asia for the first time, the show is on display at the Bund 18 Jiushi Art Gallery. Enditem
