Kunshan beats Zibo to win China's second tier football league title

XI'AN, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Kunshan FC beat Zibo Cuju 1-0 in the last round of 2022 China League One on Thursday, winning China's second-tier league title only two years after joining.

Kunshan, who had already secured promotion to the Chinese Super League (CSL) in November, put a perfect end to its incredible 2022 season campaign in the 87th minute when Hildeberto Pereira netted the winner.

Throughout the season, Kunshan has suffered only one defeat in 34 games, collecting 89 points from 28 wins and five draws.

Nantong Zhiyu, which had also earned its 2023 CSL berth, lost to Shanghai Jiading Huilong 2-1 on Thursday. Zheng Haoqian broke the deadlock for Nantong in the 10th minute. But Alex Ferreira of Shanghai calmly converted a penalty with a low shot to the corner in the 34th minute before his teammate Liu Changsheng turned the game around through a powerful shot in the 48th minute.

Although losing five games in a row, Nantong finished in third place with 70 points.

Qingdao Hainiu wrapped up the season with a thrilling 2-2 draw on Wednesday, becoming runner-up of the 18-team second-tier league and earning promotion to the top-flight league next season.

Beijing IT defeated Xinjiang Tianshan Leopard 3-0 on Wednesday, but both of them failed to avoid their relegation fate. The 18-placed Beijing IT only had two wins in the season.

Beijing BSU, who had been relegated to the third-tier league, lost to Jiangxi Beidamen 1-0 in its last league game.

Faced with financial difficulties, Chang'an Athletic had seen several players leave midway of the season and is very likely get disbanded. After the fifth-placed team lost to Heilongjiang Ice City 2-1 on Wednesday, the players put a banner in front of the cameras.

"We have spared no efforts, farewell, the northwest wolves," rear the banner.

Elsewhere, Shijiazhuang Kungfu lost to Nanjing City 3-1, Sichuan Jiuniu was defeated by Suzhou Dongwu 1-0, and Qingdao Qingchundao saw off Liaoning Shenyang City 2-1. Enditem
