BEIJING, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

WORLD'S LARGEST CLEAN ENERGY CORRIDOR

The Baihetan hydropower station, the world's second-largest in terms of total installed capacity, went fully operational Tuesday in the upper section of the Yangtze River in southwest China, according to China Three Gorges Corporation.

Its operation marked the completion of the world's largest clean energy corridor, where six mega hydropower stations on the Yangtze work to transmit electricity from the resource-rich west to energy-consuming regions in the east.

COVID-19 ANTIGEN TEST KITS

China's daily output of antigen test kits has hit around 60 million units, as the country steps up output of anti-COVID-19 medical supplies.

Meanwhile, the production capacity of ibuprofen and paracetamol is also growing, with sufficient active pharmaceutical ingredients to meet domestic demand.

ULTRA-DEEPWATER RESEARCH DRILLING VESSEL

The main body of a Chinese ultra-deepwater research drilling vessel has taken shape in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, according to the China Science Daily on Monday.

The vessel, designed with 42,000 tonnes of water displacement for 10,000 meters deep sea drilling, is capable of oil and gas drilling, as well as ocean science drilling, the newspaper reported. Enditem
