South Korea collect 3 golds at Short Track Speed Skating World Cup in Dresden

BEIJING, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- South Korea collected three gold medals and became the biggest winner on Day 2 of the Short Track Speed Skating World Cup in Dresden, Germany on Saturday.

Lee June-seo of South Korea won the men's 1,500m (1) in two minutes and 28.291 seconds, followed by Italy's Pietro Sighel and South Korea's Lim Yong-jin.

Olympic champion Choi Min-jeong took the gold medal in women's 1,500m (1) for South Korea in 2:26.536. Kristen Santos of the United States was second in 2:26.570 and Canada's Courtney Sarault took third in 2:26.591.

Suzanne Schulting of the Netherlands clinched the title in the women's 1,000m in 1:30.391. Zhang Chutong of China made an inside pass late in the race to take the third spot(1:30.569) behind Belgium's Hanne Desmet, who finished in 1:30.443.

On the men's 1,000m side, Park Ji-won took the third gold medal for South Korea in one minute 23.231 seconds.

In the mixed team relay, the Italian team of Thomas Nadalini, Arianna Sighel, Pietro Sighel and Arianna Valcepina took the gold medal in 2:39.388, ahead of South Korea and the Netherlands. The Chinese team finished third in final B of the event in 2:41.138.

In the semifinals of the men's 5,000m relay, Li Wenlong, Lin Xiaojun, Liu Guanyi and Song Jiahua placed first in heat 2 in 6:50.984 and advanced to the final A on Sunday, while Zhang Chutong, Wang Xinran, Wang Ye and Zang Yize advanced to women's 3,000m relay final A after finishing second in heat 2 in 4:08.632.
