BEIJING, March 9 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

NEAR-EARTH ASTEROID

The Nanshan One-meter Wide-field Telescope has discovered a new near-Earth asteroid, according to the Xinjiang Astronomical Observatory under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center confirmed the discovery and designated the near-Earth asteroid with the provisional number 2023 DB2.

Its closest approach to Earth's orbit is more than 30 million km, approximately 80 times the distance between the Earth and the Moon.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL DISCOVERY

Archaeologists have unearthed a relics site dating back to the late period of the Xia Dynasty (2070 B.C.-1600 B.C.) in north China's Shanxi Province, according to the Shanxi provincial institute of archaeology.

Located along the lower reaches of the Fenhe River, the site in Jishan County of Yuncheng City covers an area of about 100,000 to 150,000 square meters. Authorities carried out excavations of the site in both 2021 and 2022.

REFORMING SCI-TECH MINISTRY

China plans to restructure its Ministry of Science and Technology to better allocate resources to overcome challenges in key and core technologies, and move faster toward greater self-reliance in science and technology.

The restructured ministry will play a bigger role in improving a new system for mobilizing the nation to make technological breakthroughs, optimizing sci-tech innovation, facilitating application of sci-tech advances, and coordinating science and technology with economic and social development, according to a reform plan of the State Council institutions submitted to China's national legislature for deliberation on Tuesday.
