BEIJING, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.73 percent to 3,250.55 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.36 percent higher at 11,278.05 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 973.1 billion yuan (about 140.92 billion U.S. dollars), up from 843.2 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares of companies in the electronic information, as well as media and entertainment sectors, led the gains, while those related to bio-medicine and medical instruments suffered the biggest losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.36 percent to close at 2,293.67 points on Friday. Enditem
