SHENZHEN, May 12 (Xinhua) -- The southern Chinese coastal city of Shenzhen on Friday launched an online auction platform for its new international tuna trading center amid a push to develop the country's aquatic products sector.
Based on Internet Plus, cloud computing, the Internet of Things and big data technologies, the platform focuses on the innovation and development of online auctions, aiming to attract global high-end and high-quality aquatic products to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and form a regional price index.
At 9:15 a.m., the first auction on the platform was completed after an Atlantic bluefin tuna weighing 204 kilograms was bought at a price of 57,324 yuan (about 8,245 U.S. dollars).
The Shenzhen international tuna trading center was inaugurated on Wednesday. Relying on Shenzhen's industrial advantages in areas such as information technology, finance and online payments, the center aims to build itself into a global high-end aquatic products trading, settlement and pricing center, and provide services such as cross-border trade, warehousing and logistics, and third-party settlement.
