BEIJING, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.61 percent to 3,204.56 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.7 percent lower at 10,793.85 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 938.78 billion yuan (132.6 billion U.S. dollars), up from 929.2 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the sectors of tourism and shipping led the gains, while those related to electricity and coal suffered the biggest losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.14 percent to close at 2,193.41 points. Enditem
