MACAO, June 14 (Xinhua) -- A magazine in Portuguese focusing on Chinese culture has been launched in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), a city regarded as a bridge linking Chinese and Portuguese cultures.

Via do Meio, meaning "Middle Way" in English, is a quarterly magazine published by Livros do Meio, a publishing house in Macao that is dedicated to introducing works about China in the Portuguese language.

The first edition of the magazine included translations or reviews of Chinese classic literature, poem, and paintings by scholars in Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs) such as Portugal and Brazil.

Carlos Morais Jose, founder of the publishing house who is also editor-in-chief of the magazine, said at a launch ceremony on Wednesday that the magazine was aimed at helping the public in PSCs better understand Chinese culture.

"China boasts a complicated, profound, and diversified ancient civilization, to which Via do Meio provides an excellent access," said Jose, who was born in Lisbon, Portugal, and first came to Macao in 1990.

The magazine is currently targeting users working in education institutions in Macao and readers in PSCs and beyond.

The magazine is scheduled to be published in Portugal in September. Enditem
