RABAT, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Israel has announced its recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over the disputed territory of Western Sahara, according to a statement published by the Moroccan Royal Cabinet on Monday.
Moroccan King Mohammed VI received a letter from Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu who informed the king of Israel's decision, according to the statement.
Netanyahu said in the letter that Israel's position will be "reflected in all relevant acts and documents of the Israeli government."
The decision would be "transmitted to the United Nations, to regional and international organizations of which Israel is a member, and to all countries with which Israel maintains diplomatic relations," the Israeli leader added.
The Israeli prime minister also said Israel is contemplating "the opening of a consulate in the city of Dakhla" located in the disputed territory of Western Sahara as a means to implement the decision, according to the statement. Enditem
