ADEN, Yemen -- Three children were killed in a mine explosion in Yemen's oil-rich northern province of Marib, a local government official said Wednesday.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the tragedy occurred on Tuesday when the children from the same family were playing in an area near the As-Suwayda camp for displaced people and accidentally triggered a landmine.

The As-Suwayda camp is one of the largest displacement camps in Marib, providing shelter for around 2,000 displaced families.

The mine explosion is a reminder of the dangers faced by civilians, especially children, in Yemen's long-running civil war, which left the country littered with landmines, making it one of the most heavily mined countries in the world. (Yemen-Landmine-Casualties)

TEHRAN -- Iran's nuclear chief said the country's yellowcake production capacity has seen a year-on-year rise of 50 percent since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year, which fell on March 21.

"We have increased yellowcake production capacity by 50 percent compared to last year, and will raise it by another 50 percent by the yearend to double the output compared to two years ago," said President of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami in an interview with the semi-official Mehr news agency published on Wednesday.

As a type of uranium concentrate powder obtained from leach solutions, yellowcake is an intermediate step in the processing of uranium ores.

"Last year, we had two active (uranium) mines, and currently, the figure has increased to eight," said Eslami. (Iran-Nuclear-Program)

ISTANBUL -- Türkiye's central bank is likely to raise its main interest rate by 500 basis points to 20 percent, economists told the state-run Anadolu news agency on Wednesday.

The bank's rate decision will be announced on Thursday at 2 p.m. local time (1100 GMT).

Marek Drimal, an expert at Societe Generale's Emerging Markets Strategy research team, predicted that the central bank's rate decision would be compatible with its policy of gradual return to the economic orthodoxy.

He forecast the bank would increase its rate to 20 percent from 15 percent, according to Anadolu.

Last month, the bank, led by its new governor Hafize Gaye Erkan, raised the interest rate from 8.5 percent to 15 percent, the first such hike in more than two years. (Türkiye-Interest-Hike) Enditem
