BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China:

MEGA PV POWER STATION

Construction work has started on a new mega photovoltaic power station in southwest China's Sichuan Province, part of the country's ongoing endeavors to advance the development of clean energy.

Located at an altitude of between 3,200 and 4,200 meters in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, the Zhalashan photovoltaic power station will have an installed capacity of 1.17 million kilowatts, with an estimated average annual power generation of 2.15 billion kWh.

RICE REFERENCE GENOME

Chinese institutes have released a complete assembly of the reference genome of Nipponbare rice, according to the Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen (AGIS).

The AGIS cooperated with the China National Rice Research Institute, the Institute of Crop Science of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Yangzhou University to produce a complete assembly of the rice reference genome T2T-NIP and achieve a complete sequence of this important rice reference genome with 385.7 million base pairs.

T2T-NIP contains 12.5 million base pairs of newly identified sequence, according to the research article recently published in the journal Molecular Plant.

SURGING NEV SALES

Chinese automaker Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (GAC Group) reported a modest growth in vehicle sales but surging new-energy vehicle (NEV) sales in the first half of this year.

The GAC Group sold 236,000 passenger NEVs in the first six months, marking a yearly increase of 108.5 percent, the company said in its half-year report released on Friday. Enditem
