INNOVATION PLATFORM FOR RICE

A national rice science and technology innovation platform has been officially inaugurated in Baoqing County, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.

The platform operates under the China National Rice Research Institute and is engaged in the core technology development of China's rice industry.

NEW PLANT SPECIES

Chinese scientists have found a new plant species of Oreocharis in southwest China's Yunnan Province, according to the Chengdu Institute of Biology (CIB) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

The new species was named Oreocharis oriolus after the lively bird oriole, as its bright yellow flowers are reminiscent of the bird's feather color.The findings, made by researchers from the CIB and Guangxi Institute of Botany of the CAS, have been published recently in the journal Ecology and Evolution.

URBAN NIGHTTIME LIGHT DATA

The International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS) has released the world's first atlas of urban nighttime light remote-sensing data, providing support for the research on urban sustainable development.

The atlas contains 10-meter resolution nighttime light data on 147 cities in 105 countries around the world. Enditem
