BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.16 percent to 3,107.32 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.44 percent higher at 10,104.32 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices totaled 716.5 billion yuan (about 99.9 billion U.S. dollars), up from 665.6 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the medical equipment sector led the gains, while those in the coal industry suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.82 percent to close at 2,006.22 points Wednesday. Enditem
