BEIJING, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- The German teams achieved a 1-2 finish, while the Chinese team, led by pilot Sun Kaizhi, secured China's first medal in the 4-man bobsleigh at the IBSF World Cup in Yanqing, Beijing on Saturday.
Sun, Zhen Heng, Ding Song, and Ye Jielong of China led the first run with 58.58 seconds, 0.02 seconds ahead of the German and Latvian teams piloted by Johannes Lochner and Emils Cipulis respectively, who tied for the runners-up.
In the second run, Lochner and his crew further improved their performance on the track with a time of 58.44, but Sun's team couldn't maintain their momentum and only finished with 58.86.
Team Lochner won the gold with a total time of 1:57.04, followed by their compatriots led by pilot Francesco Friedrich. Sun and his teammates won a historic bronze for China in bobsleigh. Another Chinese squad, consisting of Li Chunjian, Wei Peng, Zhu Zilong, and Chi Xiangyu, ranked seventh.
According to the organizers, as not all sliding tracks in the world are suitable for the 4-man bobsleigh, two races of the event are scheduled in Yanqing. The second race will take place at the National Sliding Center on Sunday night. Enditem
