WUHAN, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Zhang Jinghua, former deputy secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, was sentenced to 14 years in prison for accepting bribes.

According to the verdict issued by the Wuhan Intermediate People's Court in central China's Hubei Province, he was also fined 4 million yuan (about 560,177 U.S. dollars).

From 2008 to 2021, Zhang took advantage of his various posts in Jiangsu to seek benefits for others in project contracting, project development, and job promotions, accepting 49.84 million yuan worth of money and valuables either directly or through others in return, 16.76 million yuan of which he did not actually obtain.

According to the verdict, Zhang's illicit gains have all been confiscated and will be turned over to the national treasury.

Given that Zhang confessed his criminal facts during investigation and that he showed remorse, he was granted a lenient sentence, said the court. Enditem
