BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Li Jinzhu, a former senior legislator of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) over serious violations of Party discipline and laws, the top anti-graft body said Thursday.
The decision came following an investigation by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision upon the approval of the CPC Central Committee.
The investigation found that Li, former deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Congress, abandoned his political responsibilities, ran counter to the major decisions and plans of the Party Central Committee, and polluted the local political environment and social atmosphere, according to an official statement.
Li took advantage of his power to seek benefits for others in official selection and appointment, and accepted money and gifts in return. He was also found to have meddled in market activities and the allocation of public funds, abused his power in the coal industry for personal benefits, colluded with businesspeople, and engaged in trading his power for money, according to the statement.
In line with Party regulations and laws, the decision has been made to expel him from the Party, confiscate his illicit gains, and hand over his case for judicial proceedings, the statement said. Enditem
