1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close lower Monday

BEIJING, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.02 percent to 2,702.19 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.13 percent lower at 7,964.71 points.

Banking shares were broadly higher, with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the country's biggest lender, closing up 2.32 percent.

Oil stocks also posted gains. China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) Ltd. rose 3 percent to end at 23.04 yuan (about 3.24 U.S. dollars).

Bucking the trend, shares in the fields of environmental protection, real estate and catering suffered major losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.79 percent to close at 1,562.61 points Monday. Enditem
