Disney-animated figure dragon joins Chinese New Year celebration at Shanghai Disney Resort

SHANGHAI, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Disney animation figure of dragon on Saturday joined other icons including Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse in a grand celebration held at Shanghai Disney Resort to usher in the first day of the Chinese New Year.

The dragon figure, Mushu, is a sidekick to Mulan, the main character in the Disney-animated film "Mulan" adapted from a Chinese legend.

At the celebration, Joe Schott, president and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, hosted a ceremonial task of dotting the eyes for the two slumbering lions, bringing them to life to bless everyone with luck in the Chinese Year of Dragon.

On the eve of the Chinese New Year on Friday, the Disneyland was illuminated by a special fireworks display featuring the Chinese character for dragon high in the night sky.

Running from Friday through to the Lantern Festival on Feb. 24, Shanghai Disney Resort would stage a series of holiday celebrations to immerse visitors in the festive atmosphere blending traditional Chinese elements with Disney's storytelling. Enditem
