RICE GENETIC MYSTERY

Chinese scientists have deciphered the genetic basis behind the formation of clustered-spikelet rice, which has been an interest of agricultural science for nearly a century, providing a theoretical basis and a new path for cultivating high-yield rice varieties.

The study was conducted by a research team led by Tong Hongning, a researcher at the Institute of Crop Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. It was published online in the academic journal Science on Friday.

AI GOVERNANCE

China emphasizes both development and security in global artificial intelligence (AI) governance, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Thursday.

"New things and new opportunities should be embraced, and brakes should be checked before setting off," Wang told a press conference held on the sidelines of the ongoing session of the national legislature, calling for concerted efforts to advance global governance of AI.

China's self-developed large passenger aircraft, C919, commenced operation Friday on a new route connecting Shanghai with the historic city of Xi'an in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

The flight MU2152, operated by China Eastern Airlines, took off from the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport at around 8:40 a.m. and departed for the Xi'an Xianyang International Airport, marking the launch of the third regular route for the C919. Enditem
