BEIJING, March 11 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

DNA DEVICE

Researchers from Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications have developed an intelligent DNA nano-device for thrombolytic therapy, which can automatically find blood clots and achieve precise drug delivery.

The research team used DNA origami technology to integrate DNA nano-sheets with predesigned tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) binding sites and thrombin-responsive DNA fasteners. The fastener is an interlocking DNA triplex structure that acts as a thrombin recognizer, threshold controller and opening switch.

DISEASE X

China will draw on the experience of COVID-19 prevention and control, and make proactive preparations for future pandemics such as "Disease X," which the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned could be a next global public health threat, said a health official.

Wang Hesheng, chief of the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, told a press conference that China will firmly maintain a worst-scenario thinking, refine the mechanism for switching between routine and emergency responses, enhance its multi-channel monitoring and early warning system, and promote forward-looking research on infectious diseases to strengthen preparedness for future pandemics.

In response to a question related to "Disease X," Wang said this yet-to-come epidemic caused by a hypothetical, unknown pathogen has aroused great concerns globally due to its deadly nature, quick spread, mutation ability and huge uncertainties.

NEV MARKET

A new joint venture (JV) set up by Mercedes-Benz Group China Ltd. and BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. has been registered in Beijing's Chaoyang District, sources with the district authorities have said.

Mercedes-Benz and BMW will leverage their experience in operating charging facilities globally and in China, along with their understanding of the new energy vehicle (NEV) industry to deliver charging solutions for the Chinese market.

By the end of 2026, the new JV would have set up at least 1,000 supercharging stations equipped with cutting-edge technologies across China, with some 7,000 high-power charging piles. Enditem
