MACAO, March 18 (Xinhua) -- The ceremony for the joining of the fourth cross-sea bridge connecting the Macao Peninsula and Macao's Taipa was held on Monday, marking the project's entry into the final stage.

The bridge, with a total length of 3.085 km and a main span of 280 meters, was joined last Tuesday and was the first eight-lane divided bridge in Macao.

Lam Wai Hou, director of the Public Works Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government, said at the ceremony that numerous challenges had been overcome since the project began in March 2020. He listed examples such as the impact of the pandemic, bad weather occasions, and complex geological conditions.

Chen Sichang, general manager of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation -- one of the constructing parties, said that the group will continue to deepen cooperation with various sectors in Macao and strive to contribute more to the improvement of infrastructure, economic and social development, and people's livelihood in the Macao SAR.

The new bridge was on the east side of the Ponte de Amizade, also called the Bridge of Friendship, which was completed in 1994. Enditem
