BEIJING, March 19 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

LOW-ALTITUDE ECONOMY

The low-altitude economy was defined as a strategic emerging industry at the country's annual central economic work conference in 2023 and written into this year's government work report as a new growth engine.

Han Jun, deputy head of the CAAC, said the low-altitude economy has a long industrial chain and wide applications in the industrial, agricultural, and service sectors.

According to CAAC data, there were 689 general aviation firms in China as of the end of 2023, with 3,173 general aviation aircraft registered and 451 general aviation airports established.

TUMOR TREATMENT

A Chinese research team has used freeze-dried lymph nodes to improve the curative effect of anti-tumor drugs, according to Zhejiang University.

Researchers from the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Zhejiang University and the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University's School of Medicine came up with the idea of loading CAR T cells with lymph nodes that are often removed during tumor surgery.

They use freeze-drying technology to effectively preserve the porous structure and the active ingredients of lymph nodes, and use them as a medium for storing and delivering anti-tumor cell drugs, making the treatment more potent and long-lasting.

INNOVATIVE DRUGS

Chinese pharmaceutical companies forged 18 out-licensing deals in January this year, skyrocketing by 260 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

Chinese innovative drugs have two channels to go global. Some companies independently conduct clinical studies abroad and apply for market approval, eventually gaining authorization to distribute the drugs.

Alternatively, some companies partner with foreign companies to pitch their products overseas, including through out-licensing deals. They sell the rights to commercialize their drugs globally to foreign companies, allowing the latter to take charge of the clinical development, application for market approval, manufacturing and marketing.
