BEIJING, March 21 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

LARGE CIVIL UAV

China has dispatched the Wing Loong-2 large unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to support teams tackling a forest fire in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The Ministry of Emergency Management on Monday sent the Wing Loong-2 UAV to conduct aerial fire monitoring and telecommunications support missions, to contribute to the battle against the raging forest fire in Yajiang County in Sichuan.

The large UAV carried out comprehensive monitoring of three fire sites. It also provided telecommunications support by continuously serving as an aerial telecommunications base and providing services to an area of around 1,200 square kilometers.

APPLE'S SUPPLY CHAIN IN CHINA

Apple CEO Tim Cook on Wednesday reiterated the company's long-term commitment to the Chinese market, speaking during his ongoing visit to Shanghai.

"There's no supply chain in the world that's more critical to us than China," Cook said, noting that Apple will strengthen its long-term cooperation with its Chinese supply chain partners and work closely with them on green and smart manufacturing to achieve win-win results.

ONLINE SENIOR UNIVERSITY

The "online senior university," a learning platform run by the China Association of the Universities for the Aged, has launched a new edition of open classes to meet the learning needs of senior citizens.

The announcement, made by the association on Thursday, follows the success of the first edition of open classes, which began in May 2023.

To boost educational resources for the elderly, the second edition of open classes will engage the active participation of more senior universities across the country. Enditem
