BEIJING, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese women's football star Zhang Linyan said she will be better prepared to play overseas next time after her unsuccessful stint at Tottenham Hotspur.
The 23-year-old winger terminated her contract with Tottenham Hotspur in January, four months after she joined the London club.
"Admittedly, my career at the English Women's Premier League was not a success, but I learnt a lot which I think will help me be better prepared for my next overseas journey," she said.
"Then I will make a point of choosing a team that suits my style. After all my aim will be to play as many games as possible in order to improve myself," she said.
After her exit from Tottenham Hotspur, Zhang returned to Wuhan women's football club in hope of helping them win their straight fourth top flight title.
The Chinese Women's Super League 2024 campaign will kick off on Saturday.
"Here I hope I can get more playing opportunities to maintain my shape. It's also good for my injury recovery back in China," she said.
"I am convinced that next time I play (abroad), I will be a much stronger player," said Zhang, who was voted the best Chinese female players for the last season in February.
Injury was a reason behind Zhang's short-lived spell in Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Wuhan club head coach Chang Weiwei.
Zhang was then plagued by a nagging ankle injury, which made it hard for her to establish herself at the Hotspur side, said Chang.
"I helped her weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of joining another foreign club or coming back to China," Chang said.
"I thought it's better for her to return to China where she would enjoy better conditions to treat her injury," said the Wuhan club coach.
"She is still a young player and will have other chances to play abroad," he said. Enditem
