MONTREAL, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Canada's Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps claimed the pairs title at the 2024 ISU World Figure Skating Championships here on Thursday.

Last month, the duo won the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in Shanghai, China. Today, with a personal-best score of 221.56, they delighted their home crowd with a stunning performance.

Stellato-Dudek, born in 1983, has become the oldest female world champion in figure skating. After the match, she thanked the crowd in French and then added in English, "I am even more happy, it's a dream come true."

Japan's defending world champions Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara settled for silver with 217.88. The German pair of Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin rounded out the podium in third place.

The Chinese pair of Peng Cheng and Wang Lei concluded their maiden season with 165.67, ranking 16th.

In the men's singles short program, two-time Olympic medalist and Grand Prix winner Shoma Uno from Japan temporarily took the lead with a score of 107.72.

"I'm glad that all of my hard work paid off, and I was able to perform well today. I felt really well while skating and the audience was great, and they pushed me to skate and perform even better. Although my combination jump was not the best one I could have done, my first jump received very high marks, which helped me to get a high score overall," Uno said.

Japan's Yuma Kagiyama followed in second place, with American Ilia Malinin taking third.

Unfortunately, Jin Boyang, the sole Chinese male singles contestant, missed out on the free skating competition with a score of 58.53. Frenchman Adam Siao Him Fa, a recent gold medalist at the European Championships, also encountered setbacks, finishing 19th. Enditem
