BEIJING, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.26 percent to 2,993.14 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.40 percent lower at 9,222.46 points.
Almost 4,800 stocks experienced declines, and the combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices reached 888.9 billion yuan (about 125.3 billion U.S. dollars).
Stocks related to new energy vehicles led the declines, while the food processing industry saw broad gains.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.81 percent to close at 1,789.82 points. Enditem
