Hayao Miyazaki's animated fantasy continues to lead Chinese box office

BEIJING, April 5 (Xinhua) -- "The Boy and the Heron," an animated fantasy film directed by Japanese animation guru Hayao Miyazaki, topped the daily box office chart of the Chinese mainland on Thursday, data from the China Movie Data Information Network showed.

The Oscar-winning film raked in 172.79 million yuan (about 24.35 million U.S. dollars) on the second day of its theatrical run on the Chinese mainland.

"Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," the latest installment in the MonsterVerse film franchise, came in second with a daily box office revenue of 100.21 million yuan.

It was followed by domestic crime thriller "Dwelling by the West Lake," which amassed 19.49 million yuan in ticket sales on Thursday.

The Chinese mainland's box office revenue on Thursday totaled more than 355 million yuan. Enditem
