GUANGZHOU, April 7 (Xinhua) -- The Water Resources Department of south China's Guangdong Province announced the No.1 flood of the year in its Beijiang River on Sunday, the earliest since floods in major Chinese rivers began being numbered in 1998.

Affected by heavy rainfall, water level at Shijiao hydrological station in Qingyuan city reached 8.1 meters at 6:35 a.m. Sunday, and the corresponding flow rose to 12,000 cubic meters per second, reaching the flood standard of the Ministry of Water Resources.

As of Sunday morning, water levels of 11 stations at seven rivers in Guangdong exceeded the warning level. According to the weather forecast, heavy rains are continuing to pour down in many cities across the province.

Guangdong maintains Class IV emergency response for flood control. Enditem
