BEIJING, April 7 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

5G BASE STATIONS

The number of 5G base stations in China had risen to more than 3.5 million by the end of February 2024, latest data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology showed.

With the growth of 5G stations, the usage of 5G technologies in industries is also being expanded and the integration of digital technologies and the real economy fast-tracked, according to the ministry.

SMARTPHONE OUTPUT SURGES

China's output of smartphones soared by 31.3 percent year on year to reach 172 million units in the first two months of 2024, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Domestic smartphone producers have been constantly rolling out new models, demonstrating the industry's efforts in pursuit of innovation, the ministry said.

RELENDING FACILITY FOR SCI-TECH INNOVATION

China's central bank on Sunday said it had established a special relending facility worth 500 billion yuan (about 70.47 billion U.S. dollars) to support sci-tech innovation, technical transformation and equipment renewal.

The interest rate of the one-year facility stands at 1.75 percent. It can be extended twice, with a one-year term each, the People's Bank of China (PBOC) said in a statement. Enditem
