BEIJING, April 13 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

AI CHIP

A team of Chinese scientists has designed a revolutionary artificial intelligence (AI) chip based on photonics instead of traditional electronic transistors, paving way for large-scale photonic computing and efficient real-world AI applications.

The study, published on Friday in the journal Science, reported a large-scale photonic chiplet along with a distributed optical computing architecture named "Taichi." Developed by researchers from Tsinghua University, Taichi can solve advanced AI tasks with high computing capacity and high energy efficiency.

FAST TELESCOPE ACTUATORS

China's self-developed actuators have been applied to the country's Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST) and have been running smoothly for months without any faults.

There are over 2,000 mirror surfaces on the telescope, and the main role of the actuators is to continuously adjust the angles of these mirror surfaces, thereby ensuring that the telescope functions at its optimal capacity.

The China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology overcame various technical challenges and successfully developed actuators boasting high reliability, extended lifespan, minimal noise and low heat emission.

IP PROTECTION CENTERS

A total of 71 national intellectual property (IP) protection centers are under construction or in operation in China, according to the National Intellectual Property Administration (NIPA).

They are distributed across 28 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, including the four municipalities. Enditem
