BEIJING, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.76 percent to 3,044.82 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.74 percent higher at 9,251.13 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices reached 795.4 billion yuan (about 112 billion U.S. dollars), up from the 775.35 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.

Shares related to the aerocar sector led the gains, while those in the banking and coal mining sectors saw broad declines.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.7 percent to close at 1,765.41 points. Enditem
