MACAO, April 26 (Xinhua) -- The composite Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) for March 2024 grew by 1.09 percent year on year, according to the information released by the SAR's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

Among the various goods and services, the price indices of recreation and culture, together with education, saw notable year-on-year growth, at 5.27 percent and 5.05 percent, respectively. The DSEC attributed this to rising charges for package tours, dearer hotel room rates, and higher university tuition fees.

The report also indicated that the price index of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 1.78 percent, which was attributable to higher charges for eating out, whereas the indices of transport and communication declined by 3.31 percent and 0.23 percent, respectively.

The census service body also noticed that for the first quarter of 2024, the average Composite CPI went up by 1.19 percent year on year. Enditem
