BEIJING, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Residents of east China's Fujian Province are expected to be the first to resume visits to Taiwan's Matsu, a senior official of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism said on Sunday.

According to Rao Quan, vice minister of culture and tourism, Fujian residents will also be able to participate in group travels to Taiwan following the resumption of direct sea passenger routes from Fujian's Pingtan to Taiwan.

Rao made the remarks while meeting a visiting Chinese Kuomintang party delegation led by Fu Kun-chi in Beijing.

Noting the ministry's consistent support for cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation in various fields, including tourism, Rao said it welcomed compatriots from Taiwan to visit and experience the Chinese culture and the changes taking place on the mainland. Enditem
