BEIJING, May 5 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

SCIENTIFIC EXPERIMENTAL SAMPLES FROM SPACE STATION

With the return on Tuesday of the Shenzhou-17 manned spacecraft, a new batch of scientific experimental samples from China's space station have arrived on Earth, including seeds for breeding experiments.

Forage seeds, including alfalfa and oats, provided by the Lanzhou Institute of Husbandry and Pharmaceutical Sciences under the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, underwent 11 months of space radiation on the space radiation biology exposure equipment aboard the space station.

TELECOM INDUSTRY EXPANSION

China's telecommunications industry registered steady expansion in the first quarter of 2024, official data showed.

The combined business revenue of firms in this sector totaled 443.7 billion yuan (about 62.44 billion U.S. dollars) in the period, rising 4.5 percent year on year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Combined revenue of emerging businesses, such as big data, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things, logged double-digit growth.

LAB SAFETY MANAGEMENT

China's Ministry of Education has issued a trial regulation on the tiered and classified safety management of laboratories at universities and colleges.

The regulation clarifies the responsibility system, work principles and management requirements concerning the safety management of labs at universities and colleges.

According to the regulation, a laboratory should be graded as major risk, high risk, medium risk or low risk according to its hazard sources and their volume, and be classified into types such as chemistry, biology, radiation and electro-mechanics. Enditem
