BEIJING, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Beijing U-20 player Guo Jiaxuan will be transported back to China for further medical treatment after being diagnosed with brain death at a hospital in Spain, according to a statement released by the Beijing Football Association on Thursday.

Guo sustained an accidental injury and fell into a coma during a training match between the Beijing men's U-20 team and a local team in Alcobendas, Spain, last Thursday.

He was airlifted by rescue helicopter to a well-regarded neurosurgery hospital, where after nearly four hours of intensive treatment, he was diagnosed with brain death.

"According to Spanish law, once a patient is diagnosed with brain death, the hospital has the right to terminate treatment," the statement said.

At the request of his family and other concerned parties, the hospital opted to continue treatment for Guo. He will be transported back to China on an international medical charter flight for further care. Enditem
