1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close higher Wednesday

BEIJING, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.81 percent to 3,351.54 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.46 percent higher at 10,772.65 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices was about 1.72 trillion yuan (240.01 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.79 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Stocks related to humanoid robots and automation equipment led the gains, while those in the banking, coal mining and coal processing sectors suffered major losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 2.03 percent to close at 2,226.98 points. Enditem
