BEIJING, April 18 (Xinhua) -- In the first quarter of 2025, QR code payments made in Cambodia via China's UnionPay app and its affiliated Chinese payment apps continued to rise, with the number of transactions more than doubling and the total transaction value more than tripling year on year.

The surge comes as China continues to deepen QR code payment connectivity with Cambodia, said the People's Bank of China (PBOC) on Friday.

Under the guidance of the PBOC and the National Bank of Cambodia, the central bank of Cambodia, UnionPay International has expanded its cross-border network in Southeast Asia.

UnionPay entered the Cambodian market in 2008 and now operates a widely accessible payment system across the country. Nearly all POS terminals and 80 percent of ATMs in Cambodia accept UnionPay cards.

UnionPay International said it has established and advanced QR payment collaboration with local networks in 19 countries and regions, helping expand the overseas acceptance network for UnionPay QR payments to over 10 million merchants.

Looking ahead, the company plans to further enhance user experience and expand two-way connectivity in cooperation with overseas partners. Enditem
