SHENZHEN, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Austria capped off a flawless run at the 2025 IIHF Women's World Championship Division I Group uA by defeating France 3-1 on Saturday, claiming the title with five straight wins and securing a historic promotion to the Top Division.

Despite having already secured its spot in next year's Top Division, Austria showed no signs of slowing down in its final match. Emma Lintner opened the scoring in the second period, and Lisa Schrofl added another in the third.

France pulled its goaltender for an extra attacker, only to be caught by Theresa Schafzahl, who scored into an empty net. Clara Rozier netted a consolation goal for France in the final minute, ending the match at 3-1.

"I am just super proud. It's something we have dreamed of all of our lives, we are just happy to take the step for Austrian women's hockey," said Austrian goaltender Selma Luggin.

"Our girls put everything into the tournament. The championship means a lot to us," she added.

Earlier on Saturday, China fell 1-0 to Denmark, while Slovakia beat the Netherlands 4-1.

Austria topped the standings with 14 points. Denmark and Slovakia both finished with 9 points, but Denmark ranked second due to its head-to-head victory over Slovakia, earning promotion alongside Austria. The Netherlands lost all five matches and will be relegated to Division I Group B. Enditem
