Local people squat on the roadside as they wait to carry in the bags for the guests heading to the Guangzhou Trade Fair in the spring of 1982. They would be tipped for their labor. Opposite them hang huge posters advertising the Seagull Watch, Canon and China Daily. The Guangzhou Trade Fair became a barometer for the booming of the Chinese market.
