A moderately wealthy family in Shaxi Village, Zhongshan City, Guangzhou, purchases a piano for their daughter in 1988. The parents also invite piano tutors from Beijing and Guangzhou to teach the girl. Hundreds of families in Shaxi, now a manufacturing base for leisure wear, made money during the earliest hours of the reform and opening up process.
