Residents of Wukan Village re-elect their fifth village committee on March 3, 2012. Since they could not come to an agreement regarding land, financial and election issues, villagers became disappointed with their leaders. On Sept. 21, 2011, 400 villagers went to Lufeng City to appeal for the city government's help.
