China's Internet security faces new challenge
Adjust font size:

There are a multitude of reasons behind the security issues mentioned above. Economic benefit is undoubtedly the prime reason abusers test the limits of the law. These "tricks" are relatively cheap and easy to pull off online, but it is very difficult to trace suspects and obtain sufficient evidence to build a case in court. In addition, there is a lack of applicable laws for relating to online fraud and other crimes. Meanwhile, the abusers are getting smarter. New methods appear too quickly for current laws to keep up, further aggravating the problem. Last but not least, awareness of security issues is rather low among Internet users. Not many take preventive measures to protect their accounts or passwords, and few are aware of their rights and report online crimes.

In order to tackle with the above issues, Tencent and our peers have taken the measures below:

Setting up a union of network security and improving technologies to help identify, track and crack down on abusive behavior. For example, Tencent conducted a study on Trojan activity on 4.48 billion Chinese web pages over a period of four months. We found over 5 million pages, or 0.11 percent, were embedded with Trojans.

Taking legal actions to rigorously fight Internet crimes.

Educating Internet users about network security

More importantly, the Chinese Government emphasizes network security and has formulated measures to deal with these issues. With the continuous strengthening of applicable laws and enforcement, a strong foundation for the Internet industry has been laid for future growth.

Network security is an issue that requires the industry, government and all social sectors to work together to make the Internet a safe and clean place, through effective mechanisms with the combination of technology, laws, governance and opinion guidance. We have gained some valuable experience in this regard and made marked progress in building an effective mechanism to tackle the issue of network security. We believe the solution is within reach.

Ladies and gentlemen,

China's Internet industry is growing fast. While creating more value and showing broader prospects, it is facing continuous challenges in the field of network security. Let’s work together to build a harmonious and prosperous Internet space for the benefit of all Internet users.

Wish the meeting a complete success.

Thank you very much.
