New Human Case of Bird Flu from Fujian Announced

China's Ministry of Health on Wednesday announced one more human case of bird flu.

The infected is a 26-year-old farmer surnamed Lin from Zhangpu County, east China's Fujian Province, said a report released by the ministry.

She showed symptoms of fever and pneumonia on Jan. 10 and has been hospitalized. She is now in stable condition.

Lin's samples tested H5N1 positive by both the Fujian provincial center for disease control and prevention (CDC) and China's CDC.

She has been confirmed to be infected with bird flu in accordance with the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the China's, said the ministry.

No bird flu outbreak in animal was detected by veterinarian departments in the area where Lin lives, said the ministry.

Those having close contact with Lin have been put under medical observation by local health authorities. So far, no abnormal symptoms have been reported.

The ministry has informed the WHO, regions of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, as well as countries of the new human case.

This is the 11th human case of bird flu reported in China. Previously, the country reported 10 cases, among whom seven have died.
