HK to Launch Solid Waste Charging Scheme
Adjust font size:

Hong Kong will experiment with a three-month solid waste charging scheme next month, the Environmental Protection Department of Hong Kong said Wednesday.

It said the scheme on Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Charging is aiming at examining logistical arrangements for waste recovery and disposal in different housing settings for reference in the feasibility study of introducing a variable rate charging scheme.

To introduce a charging scheme on solid waste disposal is always considered a way to make people realize their responsibility in environment protection.

During the trial period, participating residents will be given "designated bags" for disposal of different kinds of domestic waste. The department will collect relevant data and conduct a questionnaire survey to collect views and opinions from residents participating in the scheme. There won't be any charge during the trial period.
