Adjust font size:

A flight passenger was detained at the AKESU Airport in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region after two bullets were discovered inside his luggage, a news Website reported today.

The suspect surnamed Zhang was stopped at the security check post on the morning of July 17 when he tried to board a flight heading for the capital city of Urumqi, according to Xinhuanet.com.

Safety staff found something unusual on the screen when scanning his suitcase. As the scan revealed small black dots in the container during repeated checks, operators demanded to open Zhang's luggage.

They found two small caliber bullets and immediately handed over the suspect as well as the ammunition to airport police.

The report said the man was waiting for police punishment but did not provide his motive for the violation.

China's civil aviation authorities adopted a new air traffic control plan since last Sunday which aims to ensure a safe sky over China during the upcoming Beijing Olympics.

Under the plan, the Civil Aviation Administration of China will maintain closer monitoring of air traffic over the country and every domestic airport including those in Xinjiang and Tibet has beefed up their security examinations.
