Ecuador reports over 85,000 COVID-19 cases, with 5,702 deaths

​Ecuador on Friday reported a total of 85,355 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and 5,702 have died from the disease.

Ecuador on Friday reported a total of 85,355 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and 5,702 have died from the disease.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, in the previous 24 hours tests detected 985 new cases and 45 more deaths from the virus.

After five months since the pandemic began in the country, the virus continues to spread with the highest incidence in 18 of the 24 provinces, where according to the government, there is an increase in infections.

On Wednesday, the National Committee for Emergency Operations established new restrictions that came into force from Friday until Aug. 12.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the sale of liquor is prohibited and the curfew is extended from 7:00 p.m. local time until 5:00 a.m. the following day, in order to curb infections.
