Taiwan has reported five new indigenous cases of dengue fever, bringing the total number of indigenous cases to 46 since the beginning of this year, the island's disease-control agency said on Oct. 2.

Four men and one woman were confirmed on Friday as having the disease, the latest of a cluster infection associated with a farm in Sanxia, in the city of New Taipei, the agency said in a press release.

The new patients, all living in Sanxia, developed symptoms between Sept. 24 and 29.

The cluster infection has involved 30 confirmed cases as of Friday, the statement said.

Local health and environmental-protection departments have launched disease-control measures around local communities, including environmental sanitation and health education.

From Sept. 29, checkpoints have been set up around high-risk neighborhoods to control crowd flow.

In addition, the island recorded 59 imported cases, mainly from Southeast Asia, the statement said.
