France registered 23,448 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, according to figures released by the Public Health Agency on Thursday.

France's cumulative total of COVID-19 cases now stands at 3,274,608. The death toll went up by 360 in a single day to reach 77,952.

Over the last seven days, another 11,241 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, including 1,790 in intensive care, the agency added.

Since the country has launched its vaccination rollout in late December, 1,766,818 citizens have been inoculated, including 138,956 who have received the second dose, Health Ministry data showed.

As the world is struggling to contain the pandemic, vaccination is underway in some countries with the already-authorized coronavirus vaccines.

Meanwhile, 238 candidate vaccines are still being developed worldwide -- 63 of them in clinical trials -- in countries including Germany, China, Russia, Britain and the United States, according to information released by the World Health Organization on Feb. 2.
